Affordable Christmas DIY Decors + Free Printable

Christmas is my favorite season of the year!  As you can see, I even decorated my blog for Christmas. I consider my blog my "other home", so it's only imperative to decorate around here too. To be honest, I just want an opportunity to decorate more for Christmas. I love it so much!

This is also the perfect season to create affordable Christmas DIY decor.  I will share three simple and budget-friendly Christmas DIY today as well as a free Christmas printable! Along with that, I will show you how I decorated our living room for Christmas this year without breaking the bank.

My husband and I decided not put up our Christmas tree this year because we need the space for Jarvis. Besides, I don't know if Christmas tree + Jarvis is a good idea. Jarvis still likes to put things in his mouth. We don't want a Christmas ball full of glitters or a Santa ornament to end up in his mouth? Don't we? However, that did not stop me from decorating our home for the season.

We went for the traditional color scheme of green, red, white and silver. I don't know how those gold balls ended up in there. I did not authorize that.

Instead of a Christmas tree, we just decided to decorate some garlands around our living room ceiling so that I can still showcase my Christmas ornaments. I also put out some of my Christmas pillows and added some affordable  Christmas DIY decors here and there! Now we are ready for the most awaited birthday of the year! The birthday of our savior Jesus Christ! Let's not forget the true meaning of Christmas!

I was so inspired to decorate because I feel like I didn't decorate that much in the last couple years (lazy preggy and new mom) that I need to catch up. So catch up I did! But since I don't want to spend a lot of money on Christmas decors, I decided to DIY some stuff. I love everything that I created, so I am so excited to share them with you!

Here are some of the simple affordable Christmas DIY decors I made this year!

1. DIY Christmas Pillows

Materials Needed:

- Christmas Ribbons (the color of your choice)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Throw pillows of your choice

I love  Christmas pillows or pillow cases! I think they are great accent when decorating for Christmas. Nowadays, you can find a lot of affordable Christmas pillows (cases) but if you don't want to spend that much, you can just go ahead and DIY.

L to Right: Christmas Pillow from SM Dept. Store, Christmas Pillow from Landmark, DIY Christmas Pillow and DIY baby. :D

My sister and I found an inexpensive Christmas throw pillow cases in Landmark. I bought just a couple because that's all I need. I have three more Christmas pillows I bought from several years back and decided to put them in the wash to make them look clean.

The rest, I decided to DIY. I have these inexpensive shiny throw pillow cases from SM Department Store which I also bought a long time ago. Since you can never go wrong with shiny things during Christmas, I used them for this project. However, you can use any pillows that you like depending on your theme. I think solid color pillows will work best on this project.

I used the red ribbons to decorate the pillows two ways. First and the easiest way is by wrapping the ribbon around the pillow and tie them nicely. The pillow now looks like a shiny Christmas gift!

Second and my favorite is by wrapping the ribbon horizontally and vertically around the pillow.  I used hot glue to secure the ribbons together at the back of the pillow. I did not glue the ribbon on the pillow so that I can easily remove them after Christmas. To finish it off, I glued snowflake ornaments that I already have in the area where both ribbons meet to kinda make it look like a gift as well.

I love how they turned out. I had so much fun making this project because the pillows turned out to be expensive looking but actually their not!

2. Countdown to Christmas "Days until Christmas" (free printable)

Materials Needed:

- Days until Christmas Printable download here
- Picture frame (I bought mine from SM Department Store)
- Chalkboard paper sticker or illustration board
- Ribbon (optional)

I saw something like this online and I absolutely loved it so I decided to make my own.

I have a chalkboard paper sticker from my craft supplies and used that on this project. I can't remember if I bought it or if it was given to me a long time ago but they were from Expressions. If you do not have or cannot find a  chalkboard paper sticker, you can just cut out an illustration board and glue it to the print.

A little mommy tip here: It's also a good way to teach children numbers or how to count backward. You can let them write how many days left until Christmas every day. It can be their little work every day until Christmas. By the way, "work" is play in Montessori, in case you are new here. We do Montessori at home.

We will definitely make this a tradition in our home. Jarvis will write the numbers when he's ready.

3.  Glittered Pinecones

Materials Needed:
- Pinecones
- Glitters
- Glue
- Glue gun
- Ribbons
- Ornament Hooks

I got these pinecones from my trips to Sagada and Baguio a couple of years back. They already look their age. Actually, some of them are already falling apart. These pinecones are older than my son but I want to keep using them. So in order to make them look decent, I decided to give them a facelift. And by facelift I mean splashed them with glitters because anything will look better with a hint of glitter, don't you think?

Before I splashed them with glitters,  I put ornament hooks to each of them so I can easily hang them. I used a glue gun to attach the ornament hooks and loop a small ribbon to secure the hook in its place. Then I sort of painted glue around the pinecones then splashed and rolled them to a generous amount of glitters.

Once dry, I tied a red ribbon around the hooks to prettify them even more.  Oh, this project was so fun to make! I love to play with glitters! Plus they turned out really nice.  I can't believe I only did it this year.

I wish I have more pine cones though. They are not common here in Manila but I think you can buy them at Dapitan Arcade or perhaps in Divisoria.

I ended up putting the glittered pinecones on our garlands. I absolutely love them there! Putting and decorating those garlands wasn't easy guys. The task gave me a bit of a workout but I love how they turned out! Oh, I love decorating for Christmas so much!

That would be all for my affordable Christmas DIY decor + free printable and home decor this year! How did you decorate this year? Thanks for being here!

I also planned to paint Christmas-themed watercolor illustration, but I don't have the time and I don't think I can do it with a large belly. Lol, next year nlg.
